Stay Classy | Scrap the Girls May Challenge

Hi everyone! Have you checked out this month's challenge at Scrap the Girls yet? It's a fabulous themed mood board called "Birthday Girl" and it looks like this...

I took the opportunity to be inspired to scrap a photo of one of my friends and I enjoying some drunken party shenanigans. The photo was taken at my besties' "Pimps & Hoes" dress up 40th birthday party last year and it was so much fun! I was also inspired by the pink in the board.

I decided to use the Flutterby Designs 'We Run the World' collection for my layout as the colours and theme worked well with my photo. I used a sheet of very pale pink Cocoa Vanilla Studio patterned paper for my background to start with, then laid the extra piece of the Flutterby floral print 'Frida' paper over the top.

Along the edges of the 'Frida' paper I added some stamping using my Viva Las VegaStamps staple stamps (Staple X; Three Staples; and Six Staples.) To define my focal area, I painted some Colour Blast black heavy gesso across my page using a wide brush.

I then created a layered photo mat using some of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc filler cards and a D-lish Scraps paper doily. The black gesso helped to separate my layers from the background and provide more depth. I also some pieces of torn washi tape.

Alongside my photo I added my title card, which was fussy cut from one of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc cards. I popped it up on a bit of foam tape to give it some dimension and also added some more torn washi and a die cut heart from the 'We Run the World' Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack.

To the left of my photo I added a hot pink Charms Creations heart, which I topped with some messy cotton thread and a Flutterby Designs flair button

Below my photo I added the die cut awesome word (also from the Bits & Bobs pack); and a couple of Tiny Sticky Quotes. I also added my handwritten journalling and stamped the date.
I then added a few neon enamel dots around my page and a little bit of stamping using my Viva Las VegaStamps 'Doodle Dots' stamp.

I hope you get the chance to play along with us this month. Up for grabs is a store voucher to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio store (perfect with the new 'Boys Rule' collection being released in a few weeks!) Get your entries linked up before the end of the month - check this post HERE for all the details and to see what the rest of the DT created.
Until next time, happy scrapping! X

Beautiful Girl | Flutterby Designs

Hi everyone!
Happy (inter)National Scrapbook Day! I hope you are putting aside some creative time for yourself today? I am popping in to share a mixed media scrapbook layout I recently created for Flutterby Designs using a combination of the 'Good Vibes Only' and 'We Run the World' collections.
(Who would have thought that those two collections would combine so well?)

To create this layout I started with some white cardstock and used my favourite 'Bubble O'Fun' stencil to add some texture paste to a few areas around my page. I then took some 'Aquamarine Dream' Flutter Colour paint and watered it down before applying it over the top of the texture paste; as well as adding a few small splatters to my background. Once dry, I went back and repeated the process using 'Cotton Candy Pink' Flutter Colour paint. I also added a few splatters of Colour Blast 'Marine' Colour Artist Ink for some darker contrast.

Whilst the background was drying, I gathered together some Everyday Etc filler cards from both the 'Good Vibes Only' and 'We Run the World' collections that I thought would coordinate well together; then began cutting and layering them to form a mat for my photo. Once I had the layers in place I also added some frayed gauze before adding my photo on top.
At this point I decided that my background needed a little extra colour, so I added some highlights using a Colour Blast 'Lovely Lilac' Colour Shimmer Cube.

Once I had my photo in place it was time to start adding some embellishments. I cut the the world is yours piece from one of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc cards and I layered it on top of a flower that was fussy cut from one of my last remaining scraps of the gorgeous 'Frida' 12x12" patterned paper. (The 'We Run the World' paper packs are currently on sale in the store HERE)

For my title, the beautiful word came from the 'We Run the World' Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack and the girl was from the coordinating Wood Veneer Bits set. To colour it, I added coat of gesso, then used Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Cube watercolours applied with a small brush.

Around my page I used a few other pieces from the 'We Run the World' Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack - extra flowers, and the make your dreams happen piece that I placed below my photo and popped it up on some foam tape.
To the right of my photo I added the cute little flamingo sticker from the 'Good Vibes Only' Sticky Quotes sheet, and I also stuck a flower from the same sheet directly onto my daughter's hair in the photo.

I used some of the negative space on my photo to add some tiny sticky quotes as well as the become a mermaid quote pieces from the 'Good Vibes Only' Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack.
To finish off my page I added a few pink enamel dots and a few hearts from the rainbow heart stickers pack.

Thanks for stopping by so I could share this with you.
Don't forget the brand new 'Happily Ever After' collection is being released 8pm Monday 7th May. (Trust me when I say you are going to love this one - so make sure you don't miss out!)

I hope I have inspired you and that you have a happy scrappy (inter)National Scrapbook Day! X

I Am a Queen | Flutterby Designs

Hi everyone!
Time for another design team project share, and today I have a mixed media scrapbook layout for Flutterby Designs. This page was created using the 'We Run the World' collection, and a selfie I took after spending the day doing demos on the Colour Blast stand at Craft Alive back in November. (I had smurf hands, even after a scrub! haha)

I knew which quote was going to be used as my feature, so started by creating a watercolour style background to match using Colour Artist Inks from Colour Blast and stamps from Viva Las VegaStamps. This defined my focal area, whilst leaving plenty of white space for the eye to rest.

I then added my quote, cut from one of the Everyday Etc cards from the 'We Run the World' collection. I also used a couple of narrow strips from one of the coordinating filler cards to define the focal line from which the rest of the layout was going to be structured. Underneath the quote, I added a torn strip from another of the filler cards; and phrase sticker from the white tiny sticky quote sheet.

I then added my photo, which I cut away from the background and then mounted on some scrap cardboard before sticking it down. I added the wood veneer crown and the this is me quote (both from the 'We Run the World' wood veneer set). I also added the note speech bubble from the Speech Bubbles 2 Photo Cut Out. (These are awesome for adding that little bit of extra personality to a page and you get several per sheet.)

Next, it was time to add something to the to of my page, as it was looking very "bottom heavy" at this stage and I wanted to balance it out. I took another strip torn from the black & white striped filler card; as well as the she is cut from one of the white sticky quotes. I paired it with the words confident and bad ass from another one of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc cards; and the strong wood veneer from the coordinating set. The crown sticker came from the WRTW Sticky Quotes sheet.

To finish off, I added another couple of torn strips of the black and white striped filler card along the bottom edge of my page; as well as a white sticky quote and a flair button. (This high five one I used was from set #306.)

That's all from me today, I will be back soon with another project to share.
Until then, happy scrapping! X

Together We Can Rock the World | Flutterby Designs

Hi everyone!
I am here today to share my latest design team page for Flutterby Designs using the recently released 'We Run the World' collection. This page features a photo of my sister that was taken on a theme night at a scrapbooking retreat. (When we dress up, we ALWAYS commit!)

I started this page using the 'Connie' paper from the 'We Run the World' 12x12" paper pack. Because the paper had such a bold pattern, I used a little 'Arctic White' Flutter Colour paint to tone the pattern down in the centre of my page first. I then gathered together a few different 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc filler cards, which I cut and placed over the paint to create a layered photo mat.

After I had my mat in place, I added one of the tabs from the 'We Run the World' Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack; before sticking my photo on top. I then used a Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Cube to add some watercolour highlights around the edges of my mat.

To the right of my photo, I added the quote from one of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc cards, which also served as my title. Above the quote I added the camera sticker which came from the 'Mad About You' Sticky Quotes sheet; and a heart sticker from the 'We Run the World' set. (I popped the heart on a bit of foam tape to give it some dimension.)

Below my photo I added more stickers from the 'We Run the World' collection; before scattering a few tiny hearts from the same sheet around my page.
To finish off, I added some splatters of Colour Blast 'Love' Colour Spray.
(I found it challenging to keep myself from adding more embellishments, but as the paper pattern was so bold I didn't think it needed any.)

Thanks so much for stopping by today so I could share this with you, if you are looking to top up your stash of Flutterby goodies, now is a great time to do it! Anita has just added a new 'clearance' section to the website, and added LOTS of lines to it, so you can snap up plenty of bargains!
Pop over and check them out HERE
Until next time, happy scrapping! X

I am a Girl | Flutterby Designs

Hi everyone!
Time again for another design team share for Flutterby Designs. I am still loving the recently released 'We Run the World' collection and couldn't resist creating another page with it. I had these fun Snap Chat selfies and thought they would work perfectly with this range. Instead of my usual messy mixed media however, I was instead drawn to create a more graphic style page. (Yes, it shocked me too!)

As you can see my page design features lots of straight lines, colour blocks and clean, white space. (OK, so there is a bit of a splash of mixed media, but it's very minimal.)
Besides the photos, my main inspiration for this page was the I am a girl piece I used for my title. It was fussy cut from one of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc cards and I was really drawn to the brush stroke behind it.

I then pulled out the we run the world title card from the same pack, and fussy cut the words from it as well. Next, I sorted through the coordinating filler card pack and started pulling pieces that I thought would work well together. After that, it was simply a matter of shuffling pieces around my page until I was happy with the placement before I started sticking them down.

Once my photos and paper pieces were in place, I added some scrap cardboard under my photos and the we run the world phrase before using a small amount of liquid adhesive to stick it all down.
Then it was time to add some embellishments. I wanted to layer some of the key words from the collection around my page on top of my paper strips.

At the top of the page I used the strong die cut from the Die Cut Bits & Bobs pack, which I mounted up using some foam tape to give it a little dimension. I also used the fierce from the Wood Veneer Bits sheet (which I coloured white using a Posca pen); and an opaque acetate brave word.

On the small square in the top right of my page, I added one of the flair buttons from the 'We Run the World' set #1; and a small heart from the die cuts pack. I also added a larger die cut heart to the square on the bottom right of my page.

I used the empowered sticker from the 'We Run the World' Sticky Quotes sheet; along with a small heart. At the bottom of my page on top of the brick wall paper, I added the we can rock the world sticker from the same sheet.

To finish off my page, I couldn't resist a tiny amount of messy media. I used some watercolour pencils to add a couple of organic scribbles, which I then went over with a waterbrush to blend the colour out slightly. I also used a Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Cube to add a small splash of green on the right side of my page, and some tiny splatters around as well.

I was really happy with how this page turned out, and the fact I had used a different style. (And quite impressed with my ability to show restraint for a change! haha)
Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back again soon with another project to share. Until then, happy scrapping! X

Get Your Halo Dirty | Flutterby Designs

Hi everyone!
As you may have already seen announced, I am so happy to say that I am staying on the Flutterby Designs team again this year (Anita might have to pry me out with a crowbar at this rate - but who else lets me say "fuck" on my pages as much as she does?) ;)
Today I am here to share my first Flutterby project for 2018 - a page I created using the recently released 'We Run the World' collection. (As soon as I saw this SnapChat filter, I immediately thought of the get your halo dirty card from this collection!)

Let's talk about my background first.
That gorgeous paper (that I have been hoarding!) is called 'Beyonce' and is one of the ten 12x12" papers from the 'We Run the World' Paper Pack. (These were produced in a very limited run, so if you want to get your hands on some, grab them before they are gone!) I didn't want to mess up the awesome pattern too much, so I simply dry-brushed a small amount of Colour Blast white Heavy Gesso over my focal area to help define it.

The next thing I did was fussy cut my photos and then matted them with some white cardstock to help them pop a bit more. I also mounted the main photo on some cardboard (I use my Flutterby order boxes for this); so that the front photo would sit out from the one behind. (I was going with a "devil on your shoulder" type design.)
As I already knew I wanted to use the halo quote; I cut it out from the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc card and then used the excess pieces to tuck in underneath the bottom edges of my photos.

Behind my photos at the top, I tucked in an Everyday Etc filler card that featured a gorgeous round frame, as I thought it kind of resembled an orb of light (or something like that). I also added some messy cotton thread for texture before sticking my photos down.

I love a good mixed font sentence that doubles for a title; so along with the quote, I used some Flutterby Blackboard and Teal Sticky Alphas; Snippet Strips; Black Tiny Sticky Quotes and the bad ass tab from the 'We Run the World' frame. Alongside my title, I added one of the flair buttons from the 'We Run the World' set #1.

To finish my page, I added a few of the hexagons from the 'We Run the World' Wood Veneer Bits set. I simply popped them out of the sheet and used a pink Posca pen to quickly add a bright splash of colour before sticking them on.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I am looking forward to sharing many more Flutterby projects over the coming year!
Until next time, happy scrapping! X

Rebel | Flutterby Designs

Hi everyone! Can you believe we are now into December?! Boy, has this year flown by!
Today I am kicking off my December design team shares with a cheeky layout I created for Flutterby Designs using the brand new 'We Run the World' collection. This range is a little sweet, a little sassy, and very pretty - just like all the girls it was inspired by, and created for. It really is gorgeous, and so fun to create with!

"Rebel"

Those who know me already know I like to push the boundaries; so it should be no surprise that I created a layout about "Vagina Shorts". (It is probably also highly likely that I am the first person to ever feature a #vaginashorts hashtag on a page! haha) But seriously, this page captures one of the essences of this collection - to do what makes you happy, and to hell with the rules!

I started my page by creating my background using the new 'Song for Another Time' stencil and some modelling paste. (You will see where the musical reference fits in later.) I then added some colour using Flutter Colour Paints - Cotton Candy Pink and Grape Soda. To apply, I sprayed some water on my page, then I watered the paint down and dabbed it on with a brush. (I sprayed a little more water in some places to allow the paint to run.)

Once the paint had dried, I added a few splatters of Colour Blast 'Cranberry' Colour Artist Ink and some stamped phrases using a stamp from Viva Las VegaStamps. In between them, I popped a couple of the stickers from the Sticky Quotes sheet that supported my page theme.

I cut a piece of the gorgeous 'Frida' paper from the 12x12" paper pack as the base for my focal area. (The watercolour floral print on this paper is SO beautiful!) I also fussy cut a couple of the flowers to tuck along the edge of my photo mat. I then took some of the 'We Run the World' Everyday Etc filler cards and cut some pieces to add some extra layers behind; as well as one of the coordinating page tabs; then added some messy cotton thread before mounting my photos on top.

Then it was time to start adding all my embellishments. To the bottom left of my photos, I used the believe in your inner beyonce sticker from the Sticky Quotes sheet (I told you the musical reference would come); along with a small heart (that I added a touch of white paint to) from the coordinating Wood Veneer Bits. From the same set, I added the large rebel word as my title, along with another small heart nearby. Along the right side of my photos I added the this is who I am flair button; as well as the the rebel in me will never die quote that was cut from one of the Everyday Etc cards

Finally, I added my handwritten journaling (which explains everything on my page) and the word #vaginashorts above my title using some small clear alphas from my stash. A stamped date and a splatter of Colour Blast 'Stormy Weather' Colour Shimmer Spray and I was done.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. (I hope I have given you a bit of a giggle!) If you haven't shopped the new 'We Run the World' collection in the Flutterby store yet, you can find it in the What's New section HERE (But be quick, as some items have already sold out!)
Until next time, happy scrapping! X
