Trouble in the Neighbourhood | Favourite Escape YouTube hop

Hi everyone, today I am sharing a layout I created for the "Favourite Escape" YouTube hop that I am currently taking part in alongside a bunch of talented creators. The theme of favourite escape could be interpreted any way we wanted, so I chose to document one of my very favourite escapes - scrap retreat! These photos were from my retreat on the Sunshine Coast back in November 2018, but really they are representative of any and all the retreats I've been on. So. Much. Fun.

I decided to use the 'Let's Wander' collection from Vicki Boutin as the basis for my page. (I have so much of it hoarded and I really need to let go and start getting stuck into it!) The travel theme and colours of this range were perfect for these photos that were taken on our dress up night (our theme was "Trouble in Paradise").

I decided to use patterned paper for my background, choosing the black paper with the white script words say cheese. (I thought this paper was appropriate give that these photos were taken in our photo booth corner.) I decided to add some acrylic paint to the focal area of my page. I used a Dina Wakley sky blue paint (which was conveniently still on my desk from a previous project), plus some white paint, both of which I applied with a brayer.

Next, I added some extra papery layers to go in behind my photos (all Vicki Boutin papers). I chose the bright green leafy print paper first, as it was totally made to go with the shirts Mandy and I were wearing. I also added a splash of orange to tie in with the colour of Fiona's dress. I also added some frayed gauze under my photos and a few pieces of torn washi tape to the page.

When it came to embellishing the layout I didn't stray far from the 'Let's Wander' collection. I used a few pieces from the chipboard Thickers pack including the labels I attached to each of my smaller photos and the orange phrase label that formed part of my title. The remainder of my title was some of my favourite black foam Thickers.

I chose three large die cuts from the ephemera pack (sunglasses, camera and a leafy branch), and used them to create my "visual triangle" around my main photo. I chose the large size die cuts because anything smaller would have been overwhelmed on this bold, busy page. I also added a couple of stickers from the sticker sheet.

I finished off with my handwritten journalling and a scattering of small orange star buttons.

Check out my process video for this page, and please make sure you visit the other creators who are taking part in the hop - you might just find some new scrappers to follow. (You can find a full list of the participants in my video description over on YouTube.)

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I'll see you again soon. Until then, happy scrapping! X

Big Fun

Hi everyone! I've got another "just because" layout to share with you today. This mixed media page was created to document another one of my kids awesome dress-up photos using some of my favourite products from my stash.

I started my page by adding some Distress Oxides to my cardstock (Chipped Sapphire and Mowed Lawn), which I applied by mixing it with water on my messy mat and then laying my cardstock over the top to soak it up. I love the randomness of using this method, as it's always a surprise how the colour will come out and it gives me a jumping off point for the rest of my page.

Next, it was time to start building some layers. First, I used black ink and one of my fave star stamps (Squiggly Star Collage) from Viva Las VegaStamps, which I stamped three times to create a "visual triangle" around where my photo was going to go. I then took some Vicki Boutin Prism glaze, and swiped a little around the page using my palette knife. This broke up the strong navy of the ink, and added texture and shine.

For my next layer I used a stencil from StencilGirl Products called 'Military Style Stars' along with my TCW 'Light & Fluffy' Modelling Paste. I chose a basic white modelling paste as I wanted something with a matte, white finish to pull back some of the colour. I then used another of my fave VLVS stamps 'Sky of Stars Background' to add yet another layer to my background.

Next, I added some papery layers using patterned papers from Vicki Boutin (a mix from both the 'Let's Wander' and 'Color Kaleidoscope' collections). I cut and tore the papers into various size pieces, which I stacked with a paper doily and some frayed gauze before topping with my photo.

For my embellishments I again used Vicki Boutin products - a mix of ephemera, stickers and Thickers. I used these pieces to continue building up the layers on the page. To the right of my photo I added a handmade star embellishment from Charms Creations, which I topped with a flair button (from my sister's stash - thanks Mandy!)

I finished off with some Vicki Boutin puffy word Thickers for my title and then I was done! I had so much fun creating this page and it all came together so easily. (Don't you love it when that happens?)
Thanks so much for stopping by so I could share this with you. Until next time, happy scrapping! X

A couple of "just because" layouts using Vicki Boutin supplies

Hi friends!
I'm popping in today to share a couple of "just because" layouts with you. I recently had a weekend away to enjoy some crafty time at my sister's place. The ability to spend a couple of days crafting with my favourite person, without any cries of "muuuum" or the inevitable distractions of everything that needs to be done around the house is just bliss!

I had very limited time when I packed for the weekend, and one of the things I grabbed was my treasured box of Vicki Boutin supplies. This included my stash of the "Let's Wander" collection, that I unashamedly admit I had been hoarding. To "break the ice" I decided to start with a quick A4 sized layout featuring my sister and I.

"Remember This Happened"...
(Click on photos for a better view)

I love this selfie of us that I took when we went to see Bohemian Rhapsody at the movies. We are both huge Queen fans, and love a good dress-up as well. (We've also been known to whip out moustaches and bust out Bohemian Rhapsody at random times.)

To create this layout I started by adding a splash of colour to my white cardstock using my Faber-Castell Gelatos. I simply scribbled the colour where I wanted it to be, then blended it out using a baby wipe.

I then began to cut into my precious papers - adding a strip of the of the fun glasses print to the top and bottom of my page, and also a smaller strip of the navy abstract print. I then created a simple mat for my photo to sit on, adding a paper doily for extra interest.

I embellished my layout using a combination of die cuts and stickers; added simple typed journalling to tell the story and then finished with small splatters of black ink.
I love how it turned out, I think it's super fun!

Here is my second layout, "Grand Adventure"...

This time I opted for the same size and chose to document some photos of my hubby mountain climbing. I love these photos so much (I get way less scared seeing him like this now), and I love the tones of the sky in these shots that were taken at dusk. They also show some of the beauty of our local area.

Because of the colours in the photos, I was immediately drawn to the ombre style sheet of patterned paper from the 6x8" paper pad that I thought echoed them perfectly. Rather than cut into it, I decided to use it as a whole and simply used my brayer to add some Payne's Grey paint onto the cardstock before I stuck it down on top.

Not wanting to overwhelm the photos, or minimise the impact of the paper, I kept my embellishments relatively simple, again using a combination of stickers and die cuts. I created a small cluster in the top left corner of the page to include the quote that also doubled as my title.

With the exception of the title piece, I deliberately kept the remainder of my embellishments in black and white. This was to ensure that the colour photos and paper remained the focus of the page. I finished my layout by adding a simple doodled border using a Sharpie.

So there you have it - two "just because" layouts using my precious Vicki Boutin supplies. Now I have finally cracked into the "Let's Wander" collection I am keen to get stuck back into it. Stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by today so I could share these with you. Until next time, happy scrapping! X
